Female Medical School Society is established.

The first medical society for women in the U.S., its purpose is “to provide and promote the School of midwives, nurses, and female physicians, and to diffuse among women generally a knowledge of physiology and the principles and means of preserving and restoring health.” The president, secretary, and treasurer of the society are all men.
